One thing I have always been passionate about is spreading diversity. I noticed a lack of books for children that address diversity, specifically in breaking it down in a simple way for kids to digest.
Diversity in the Fonts teaches kids about diversity in a simple and fun way. To do this I tell the story of a letter "H" who goes on a journey to find out that their differences are what make them special. I used typefaces that show a variety of characteristics, including my own font, Skyline.

Diversity in the Fonts is a children's book that teaches kids about diversity in a simplified way. The book tells the story of the character "H" who doesn't feel like they fit in, and throughout the book, they learn that what is different about them is what makes them special. They see characters that are different shapes, sizes, colors, genders, speak different languages, and have different characteristics. H is able to grow into their best self once they are introduced to all the other varieties of letters.
When I was growing up I didn’t have anyone around me who looked like me, I was one of the only brown girls in my small town. There wasn't much representation on TV or really in any of the books I was reading at school. As I have grown up and become much more secure in my identity I have been able to reflect on my childhood and it makes me so sad that there are other young kids out there who also think they don't belong. As a designer, I know I have a responsibility to use my skills for good, so I wanted to design a book for kids to let them know that no matter what they look like they are seen.
“Now I know that what makes me different is what makes me special”
